Refuge
Guardiola de Bages. Barcelona.
2015
Site-specific
Refuge is an action that looks to the past to understand the present.
The project consisted of research work, enumerating and documenting an old half-ruined vineyard hut, dismantling it stone by stone and starting to assemble it in the main square of Manresa where the concept of refuge disappears. The work presented in an urban setting the entrails of a half-ruined vineyard hut.
Days later, the stones were returned to their place of origin and the hut rebuilt stone by stone, exactly as it was built. With the help of a specialist, it was completely rebuilt and an inauguration ceremony was held with the delivery of a numbered stone inside a box to all collaborators.
This work, appealed to with the memory of the agricultural and viticultural past of the Bages region, claims the preservation of this important heritage. It is also a small tribute to Jaume Sellarès Gamisans, (grandfather of the artist’s grandfather) who was dedicated to the construction of dry-stone parents and vineyard huts.
The project took part in the Vi-suals festival in 2014.
